    Thematic festivals

    2015-2020

    Small Rivers Festivals in Sharkovschina and Pinsk district, European Mobility Weeks in Polotsk, inclusive festival INFEST in Volozhin, Polotsk Light Festival – these are some of the events that we conducted in Belarus from 2015 till 2019.

    Our portfolio includes both traditional festivals – with music bands, master classes and workshops on various topics, quests and quizzes, food courts and entertainment for children – and new and unconventional festival formats with elements of urban studies and citizen engagement.

    All of our festivals took place as part of EU-funded projects:

    Small Rivers Festival in the Pinsk district in 2019 – project Cross-border Water Inspectors;

    Polotsk Light Festival in 2018 – project PubLiCity: Energy Efficient Modernization of Public Lighting in the City of Polotsk;

    Inclusive festival INFEST in Volozhin in 2018 – project Volozhin without Barriers;

    European Mobility Weeks in Polotsk in 2015 and 2016 – project From Energy Efficiency to Urban Mobility;

    Small Rivers Festival in Sharkovschina in 2015 – project Small Rivers – Big Challenges.

    Why do we conduct festivals?
    To raise public awareness on important issues such as equal opportunities and inclusion, climate change, energy saving, water quality.
    To try out modern citizen engagement approaches where enthusiastic local residents come up with ideas of how to transform their community in a creative way, and join forces with local authorities to implement these ideas.
    To make Belarusian districts an interesting destination for local and foreign tourists.
    Highlights of our festivals:
    Small Rivers Festival in the Pinsk district in 2019 was a cross-border event that gathered residents of the Belarusian and Ukrainian Polesye region. The festival was preceded by a cross-border water summer camp where schoolchildren and teachers from the Pinsk and Liubeshiv districts learned the basics of how to monitor water in their local small rivers and wells.
    Polotsk Light Festival in September 2018 was the first light festival in Belarus! More than 30,000 visitors came to Polotsk to see 11 light installations in the city streets and take part in thematic events dedicated to different aspects of light and energy efficiency.
    For the INFEST festival of inclusion in the Volozhin district in August 2018, the site for the festival was made ready by the participants of the 6-day summer camp, including those with different forms of disability. Designers and mentors helped camp participants to create a sensory nature trail and eco-art objects.
    During the European Mobility Weeks in Polotsk in 2015 and 2016, local residents visited historical sites of the city as part of bike tours and bike quests, discussed transport development, watched movies and listened to outdoor lectures, took part in contests and workshops, and even dressed up for a bike carnival! Mime artists entertained passengers of city buses, and seats in one of the buses acquired new knitted outfits!
    Small Rivers Festival in Sharkovschina in 2015 gathered more than 1,500 guests! The agenda of the festival included workshops, contests, quests and even theatre shows on the topic of small rivers and environmental protection.
